Frequently Asked Questions

What should I write about?

If you’re struggling for ideas, check out our list of prompts.

What kind of stories are you NOT looking for?

Political rants, personal manifestos, or stories that belittle another person, group, or culture. Works of journalism, criticism, or poetry. See the requirements for more guidelines.

My story involves several people, and I don’t know if all of them want to be included. What should I do?

The best thing to do is secure permission from the person or people you are writing about in your story. When in doubt, it is better to err on the side of anonymity. For example, you may choose to only use a person’s first name or to rely on general references such as “my friend,” “the coach,” etc. And of course, if including the person in your story could be interpreted as defamatory or slanderous, we advise that you reconsider the story for submission altogether.

Will all stories be published?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to publish every story we receive at this time.

What do I get if my work is published?

All contributors whose work is selected for publication in the print edition will receive one free copy of the book and a digital download of the eBook, as well as promotion in marketing and social media campaigns.

Can I submit photos with my story?

Absolutely! Photos, videos, and supplemental materials are welcome. We only ask that the materials being provided are high-resolution (about 300 pixels per inch for photos).

How will I know if my work is selected?

We will do our best to notify contributors whose work is published online. All contributors whose work is selected for the print anthology will be notified prior to publication.

Will my work be edited?

Yes. We reserve the right to make edits in order to resolve issues with style, grammar, or clarity. If adjustments to content or structure are necessary, we will do our best to work with writers on making those edits.
